Royal Caribbean Cruise Lobster Night

So we all know the price of gasoline is crazy, we’re paying more for less at the grocery store, the housing market is not great. Can anyone afford a vacation now? Well, if you can, you’ll be seeing one less perk on Royal Caribbean Cruises. Thanks to rising costs, the cruise line is apparently in the process of eliminating it’s popular dining room Lobster Night. I can hear the collective groans now so let me share a few paraphrased comments on how cruisers feel about this:
“Doesn’t seem necessary to get rid of them since the ships make a ton of money on drinks and the casino.” “First midnight buffets and now lobster? What’s next? I’d be willing to pay an extra few bucks for my cruise to get that special treat, something I don’t make at home.”
“I’m from Maine and frankly, the lobster on cruises is tough and tasteless. Just because it’s called lobster doesn’t mean it’s good.” Yet another comment: “Lobster night has been a tradition on Royal Caribbean for years. Seems like the little bit of money saved will not make up for the loss of good will among passengers who look forward to the seafood treat.”
By the way, Royal Caribbean is still serving lobster in its specialty Portofino restaurant. Cruisers aren’t thrilled Carnival Cruises and Princess Cruise Lines are serving what seem like mini lobster tails and have added shrimp as a supplement to the lobster. But so far the cruise lines haven’t limited the amount you can eat so second and third orders are still popular.
A couple of other notes here. If you sign up for my free Cruise Tip ebook (top left column) there’s a bonus recipe for lobster and shrimp from Royal Caribbean. Also, if you’d rather cook it at home, here’s a link to a new online company, fresh maine lobster. I haven’t tried them yet so I don’t have an opinion on their product. They also provide some recipes and lobster tales with their tails.
If you’re so inclined, I’d love to hear your lobster tales as well.
Happy travels and good eats!
